A Sonnet Penned On My Lunch Break

Please won’t you stem the flow of my salt lake? A task you will no doubt soon undertake For all along a dam you’ve always built To feed this sunken flower, aged and wilt And dried up at the root for all the year You pause and wipe but now a single tear Falls not from sky but ‘stead it falls from you A Tear that drops and with it writes it true That all the year had passed while you had been Ever-present, yet were rarely seen. Nursing back to health a sickly rose, Whose petals hang and with them I suppose, Abandoning dam, I left you there in guilt, Alone to rot, and die, and age, and wilt.
